I'm 43!
This is Lisa! She crafts! She is my cousin! WOOOO HOOOO! She just started her own blog, thegreetinggate.blogspot.com. This weekend while we were crafting, I was frantically searching for my glasses! It's true .... things do appear smaller than they actually are! After locating them and putting them on, Lisa giggled and looked sideways at me like I was an old woman! I immediately explained with deep passion that I am FORTY-THREE! I flung my glass off and handed them to her. After putting them on and returning to her project, she turned a bright shade of red and giggled again, "I am going to get me some 'I'm 43' glasses!"

My friend Wendy and I share the same birthday! Naturally, taking time to make her a birthday card was a must! I enjoyed using an acrylic birthday stamp to create the background and a cool CuttleBug embossing folder that had a birthday theme! I colored the digital image, Wild Rose Studio Clear Stamp - Mia Gardening, with my Prisma Colored pencils and added a little bling to the corners. A handmade card, a pretty picture, and bling ... nothing else would do for the Queen (of the jungle)! To my Leo friend Wendy, Happy Birthday! (and now a blog entry about you as well!) :)
Dear Mr. Marcie!
An incredible interpreter that works with our agency called recently to tell me about her husband. As with most men, one visit to the doctor is one more than enough! He was being stubborn and fortunately she was too! He was taken and the situation was remedied quickly, but not before scaring the daylights out of her! Upon his return from the hospital, he received this card ... explaining to him that I had a dear friend that loves him deeply and needs him to stick around for a long time! Failure to attend regular visits to the doctor would result in a "time out!"

Everything I Learned in Life...
Everything I learned in life.... I learned at the laundromat! The laundromat just down the road was my first job. It was where my mother worked, where my father worked and where both of my grandparents worked. Of course, they all worked there after many years in other careers but for me it was just the beginning ... where I started & where I learned many invaluable and tremendous life lessons!
Esther worked at the laundromat as well. She was a wrinkled, hard working woman in her early sixties with the voice of Bea Arthur. Esther had a Deaf son, Eddie. He would stop by work to check in with her when he was in town and running amuck with his friends. He lived mainly at the residential Deaf school in Wilson, NC. On those occasions, when he was home and stopped in to chat with his mom, I was fascinated and in awe with their communication. He used American Sign Language fluently and it was painful to watch Esther struggle to keep up with his flying hands.
Hind sight being 20/20, it was the spark in me that started a wild fire. I now have three national certifications in interpreting and own an agency that provides services to Deaf clients across eastern North Carolina.
Just the other day I stopped in to the small cleaners where I take my work clothes to have them pressed and spiffed up. To be completely honest, I could press them myself but walking into the cleaners sometimes feels like listening to an old familiar song where the rhythm matches your heart beat. Anyways, I took my clothes in to drop them off and to chat with Bertha for a few minutes. Wonder of all wonders, that very day was Bertha's last day at work! It came as no surprise to me that on that day and in that place, Bertha reminded me of a bit of simple wisdom that I will cherish and utilize, paying homage to my lessons from the laundromat! With her hair twisted up in a bun, glasses sliding down her nose, and a grin as wide and teethy as a billy goat's, she told me, "Treat your workers right and they will work hard for you ... and love it!" There was no doubt that she was telling me she hadn't been treated well but there was no anger or animosity in her voice. It was just plain and simple.
So with the fire sparked by Esther and the gentle reminder from Bertha, I mailed out these invitations to the wonderful group of interpreters that I have been blessed to have working with the agency, All American Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.

Mama's Lil Punkin Head!
It is no secret that here in the South we have a sayin' and a name for everything! Cute babies are called everything thing from "punkin head" which is pronounced more like "punky head" to "butter ball" which should sound like "budder baw." There is no shortage of strangers doting over babies, whether they be in their mother's arms, in their strollers, or still in their bellies! There is no insult in our linguistic creativity. It's all about the love and celebration of a new life. So, the next time a stranger walks up to you and compliments your Lil' punkin head, just smile and thank her politely, and hope she invites you home that afternoon for some southern fried chicken, Paula Deen style!

Facebook is a wonderful place to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones! Don't ya just love it when a friend of a friend of a friend has a cousin that knows you and your family and all your aunts and uncles and was in the same kindergarten class you were in? ONLY on Facebook! :) I made a new friend, Stephen, while commenting on a friends FB post. I knew that he and I would be bosom buddies when he complimented the beanie I had on in my profile picture! The beanie was handmade by another friend of mine, Cheryl. She crochets these things at the speed of lightening and they end up these gorgeous pieces of artwork that accessorize you and keep you warm from October through March! Soooooo, when my new friend Stephen commented on my beanie, I knew exactly what had to be done! I called my old friend Cheryl and told her to whip up a pink and blue one, and my best friend Michele and asked her to locate and download a digi that had a picture of a boy and a beanie! This card was the result. Michele found and copiced the perfect digi, Cheryl crocheted the most beautiful beanie, and I designed a cute card to send out in the mail, for my friend Stephen!

Hope!
I "hope" that you all had a wonderful Father's Day and were able to spend the day with someone that is very special to you. I went to visit my brother and his family down in Georgia. Although it was a very short trip, we had a fabulous time as always.
Speaking of "hope," I made this tag to enter into the the "tags" challenge over at Mo's Digital Pencil Shop. I used Mo's digital stamp, "Sprout" and of course used my beloved Copics to color her. I love Mo's digital stamps... all of them. They are so cute and so much fun to color.

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Mine was GREAT!
I spent most of the weekend in the pool with my family...
desperately trying to keep cool.

Happy Birthday Challenge
Hi everyone! I am back for the 2nd time today... this time with a birthday card that I will be entering in the Scrappy Frogs Challenge. I steered away from the traditional, bold birthday style and created a card that was a little softer thinking maybe one that I would send it to a dear friend or family member.
Once again, I was browsing the SplitCoastStampers website and came across the Criss Cross template. I used my copics, score pal, and glossy accents. I also used a new product (well, it is new to me) called Viva Decor Pearl Pen- Cream. I am absolutely in love with these. I wish my photo showed the effects of it on this card. You can make your own very own 3-dimensional "bling" on your projects. They come in many colors and I got mine from Scrapbookpal. They ship out the same day as the order is placed and it came a day earlier than they projected. And what's even better is the free shipping with an order of $25 or more.
